Bandeau Bras

Bandeau bras typically feature a single strip of soft, elasticated fabric to cover the bust. They have a much more horizontal shaped neckline than other bras. Some also offer moderate shaping, such as a gathering between the bust or padded cups. Mio Destino stocks bandeau bras with the added support and shaping of underwires as well as shoulder straps. See Lise Charmel’s luxurious range for exquisitely embroidered bandeau style bras with underwired padded shaped cups. Bandeau bras date back to Roman times when women would have a simple wrap around their bust in sports events or for bathing. It was a simplistic and achievable way to gain coverage when nothing else was readily available. Since the 1920s, the term bandeau bra has been coined for this type of bra, and it has evolved to be more comfortable, shapely and moderately supportive. The 1940s saw the bandeau bra being a popular option for a swimsuit top, and it could be admired as a fashion statement for lounging at the poolside or at the beach. They are also still used today as swimwear items. Mio Destino stocks some beautiful bandeau bikini tops from a variety of brands. See our own Mio Swim brand for gorgeous vibrant collection. Generally, these types of bras are not considered suitable for fuller bust sizes as they often do not have additional supportive features. However brand Curvy Kate prides itself in offering an array of bigger cup sizes; so have adapted the bandeau bra for the fuller busted lady.
