When Barack Obama became American president at the beginning of the year, his wife Michelle was always there supporting him, but who would have thought that she would become a style icon in the fashion world. Her latest style choice has more than qualified her for this fashion accolade when she attended Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People ceremony wearing a beautiful black corset gown. The black gown, designed by Micheal Kors was glammed up with a corset belt by Peter Soronen, long jet beads and her hair elegantly pulled back. Corsetry is a trademark of Peter Soronen’s designs of which Michelle is a fan.
It was her first trip to New York as America’s first lady, and the awards held at the Rose Hall, Time Warner Centre attracted 300 attendees including Oprah Winfrey, Claire Danes and Valerie Jarett. Michelle was herself named one of the 100 most influential people, and she gave a speech, taking the opportunity to announce a new fund she is involved with to help non-profit groups and social entrepreneurs.
Since January, Michelle has become a fashion icon, respected for her ability to dress for her shape and appropriate to the occasion. A website, www.mrs-o.org has been set up to catalogue all of her fashion choices and in March she was photographed for the front cover of US Vogue kicking off a trend of three black models appearing on the cover of US Vogue in three consecutive months. This woman is certainly making an impact, and no one else could wear a corset belt with such elegance.
