Who’d have thought that being environmentally friendly meant dressing up like a bag lady, well maybe it was in the 1980’s but its 2008 and there’s no longer an excuse with Michela Carraro on the scene. Only a week ago the Italian-born designer showcased her stunning collection of pastel, draped blouses and billowing dresses as part of London College of Fashion's Fashioning the Future summit. Sourcing organic materials wherever possible Carraro creates sustainable sumptuous clothing in every collection.
Taking inspiration from a stunning photographic book on butterflies by Thomas Marent and a black and white photo shoot from a seventies Vogue issue picturing a model on location wearing a heavily gathered terry bathrobe/dress she wanted to recreate something with an organic feeling that was also acknowledgeable through shapes, materials and details, which have all been carefully handcrafted.
Since graduating from London College of Fashion, in 2007, studying Fashion Design (Fine Art before that in Italy) she has not only wowed us with her fantastical wispy creations but her statement accessories are all in this season.
