We all know supermodels are under a lot of pressure to keep in shape, but we also know that they would still look fantastic even if they put on a few pounds. Karolina Kurkova, the Czech supermodel has been scrutinised in the press recently as she apparently put on weight last year. These pictures show the 24 year old’s “cellulite, love handles” and “fat back” as reported by the Brazilian press after Kurkova appeared in Sao Paulo fashion week last June.
She was also labelled “too fat” after walking in the Victoria’s Secret lingerie show last November in Miami, despite being rumoured to be on a diet of vegetables, salad and protein in preparation for the show. She exhausted herself with exercise and dieting but failed to get into shape according to the media. In fact, she was only included in the show at the last minute as the organisers debated over whether to include her.
Kurkova is the eighth highest paid supermodel in the world and has worked for Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel and Balenciaga. It is a shame that a model who has appeared on 20 Vogue covers worldwide is now being treated with disdain from the media. The images of Kurkova show a healthy and beautiful bikini body and to describe her as “fat” is sending out a very wrong message to the public. As models have come under scrutiny for being size zero, it is strange that Kurkova has been rejected so publically as being too overweight for the catwalk. Surely this is sending out mixed signals?
